Hello, World!
Welcome to The Game Dev Guys. This is a blog shared by several game industry professionals who will share their experiences, knowledge and ideas on video game development. We’ll have code samples, tutorials and discussions of advanced topics in areas like graphics, AI and networking. And maybe a funny story or two about the games we’ve worked on.
This site intends to cover advanced topics. This is not a beginner topic site. There are plenty of other great resources to help budding game programmers get off the ground with initializing devices and linear algebra. Being a programmer, I don’t find much use in reinventing the wheel. There is more need for intermediate and advanced programming concepts, and that is the need this site intends to fill.
With that in mind, discussion is encouraged. If you have a question, please ask! It is possible that in the future we will invite more game developers to contribute to this blog and create a community made of developers, for developers. The good news is that you won’t have to pay exorbitant amounts of money for a triple-A game engine to get to the community.
I suppose introductions are in order. I’m Tony Basch, currently a software engineer working on Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment’s first game, Stargate Worlds. I graduated from Kent State University in 2005 and went on to attend The Guildhall at SMU, quite possibly the best thing I could have done for my career. I was born and raised a gamer playing an Atari 2600, a PS3 and everything in between. You can expect articles from me discussing technology, game design and the game development process itself.
Enjoy your stay, feel free to bookmark us (its not like we can stop you) and if you’ve got an advanced programming or game development blog, we’d love to link to you.
Happy coding!
- Tony
